The Frison mansion, ‘the forgotten Horta-building’

Victor Horta built the Hotel Frison (center of Brussels) for his best friend, the lawyer Frison in 1894, as one of the first “modern” houses.

The house is now renovated to its original splendor.

It is now available for dinners, conferences, seminars and receptions.

Appropriately enough, for its magnificent lines and features include a glass gallery that allows light to flood right into the heart of the edifice. The hand of the master can be identified in several of its wonderful details, and although it is a building dating back to the very beginning of Horta's career, one can instantly recognize the sober elegance so typical of the architect's work, and the qualities of harmony and continuity, rationality and novelty that granted the building its artistic worth.

Sterkmans Events obtained exclusivity to organize events there.

This is an excellent opportunity to let your guests see inside one of the finest houses of the nineteenth century to grace the centre of Brussels.
They can come in for a seminar, a dinner or “walking dinner” or even a workshop or conference.

This is ideal for groups and there is room for as many as 90 to 100 persons.

Two ‘modules’ are possible :
The ground floor : up to 70 guests, 3 spaces.
The first floor: up to 50 guests, 2 spaces.

Moreover, the event can be livened up by using professional guides (English, French, Dutch, German or Italian speaking) or animated further with a comedian, musicians or other types of entertainment on a theme (Casino, Roaring Twenties, Belle Epoque, etc).

The guild was officially recognised in 1213 by the Duke of Brabant and is intimately linked with the earliest history of the town of Brussels.
It acquired a social position, that grew throughout the “Ancien Régime”, in particular because of its founding of the church of Notre-dame au Sablon.
The martial role of the Guild diminished little by little, to give way to peaceful tests of skill, to which important notabilities were invited.
Charles V, the Count of Egmont and the Infanta Isabella came to be installed as ‘Kings of the Shoot’.
In 1853, the Belgian King Leopold the first, donated the Guild a banner and a collar for the King of the Shoot. Since then, the Guild added ‘Royal et Noble’ to its name.
King Albert I, King Leopold III, King Baudoin and King Albert II visited the Guild or accepted the Grand Mastership.

The arms used are of the traditional sporting style, made of wood, and conceived to shoot with accuracy; the bear little resemblance, apart from using the same mechanical principles, to the weapons of war of the middle ages. They are not found in general distribution, but are made to order by a number of skilled craftsmen. Each arm is, therefore, unique.

Le lieu…

La “Distillery” ancien bâtiment industriel de 400m2 transformé en habitation originale toute imprégnée de son histoire a donné naissance à un nouvel état d'esprit. Redonner vie à un espace utilitaire, le transformer, l'aménager en loft, espace hautement artistique spacieux et chaleureux, et y vivre : ce comportement témoigne du respect et de l'amour des édifices de notre passé.
Sublimant la rudesse de quelques murs centenaires, la “Distillery” nous ouvre un chemin où le contemporain n’est plus seulement un parti pris, mais la seule voie possible pour atteindre l’essentiel.

L’artiste Caspar a élu son domicile de travail où l’atelier
prend tout son sens, il explore et recouvre les murs de ses créations laissant vivre l’art en mouvement à travers ces
vidéo-arts.
Projections murales internes & externes, écrans numériques, nous donnent la mesure et la démesure de fresques contemporaines.
L’œuvre protéiforme de Caspar nous invite également à pénétrer dans son univers anthropomorphique que sa peinture en glacis révèle à l’instar des icônes.
Cet ensemble de médium présenté avec goût, au sein de la “Distillery” nous ouvre un champ exploratoire hors du commun.

" je choisis l’art de la table, celui de nos chefs et des vins qui, une fois habilement versé, font de l’ensemble le plus élégant des paysages… Musique !

L’artiste Caspar nous dévoile; “Un dîner bien composé doit être comme un ballet bien dirigé, comme une symphonie orchestrée par un maître depuis l’adagio jusqu’à l’allegro final”.

Ainsi le plaisir nouveau à “la table de l’artiste” serait un accélérateur de souvenirs, entre limbes et aventures gourmandes, rêvées ou magnifiées. Pourquoi ne pas en tenter l’expérience ? Levons notre flûte aux bulles légères, fermons les yeux faisons danser le verre et, “à gorgées espacées, réfléchies”, laissons opérer… À chacun ses madeleines…

La salle elle-même est construite sur 2 niveaux : le premier niveau couvre une surface globale de 360m2. Le sol est constitué de parquet en bois debout ciré, de part et d'autre de la salle une rangée de grandes fenêtres borde celle-ci, le tout est occultable grâce à la présence de rideaux dont la fermeture est contrôlée à partir d'une commande électrique.
L' infrastructure d'accueil : un hall d'accueil de 60m2 dont le sol est en marbre et pourvu d'un vestiaire, un somptueux bar avec comptoir équipé de pompes à bière et de frigos destiné à satisfaire les besoins d'un public de 500 personnes, sont ses principaux atouts.

Au fond de la salle un escalier spacieux permet d'accéder au deuxième niveau lui-même réparti de part et d'autre de la salle sous forme d'un balcon constituant des lieux supplémentaires de restauration,ou bien permettant de prolonger un événement se déroulant au niveau inférieur (p.e. :défilé de mode, expositions, stands de présentation, etc...). Un monte-plat relie la cuisine à cette partie de la salle et permet de prévoir le service des tables éventuellement dressées à cet endroit.

La diversité des événements qui peuvent se tenir dans cette salle est très étendue.
Défilés de mode, congrès, spectacles et "dîners-spectacle", ainsi qu'expositions variées peuvent être avec facilité organisés avec succès dans ce lieu unique et approprié. Des tables et des chaises selon la formule choisie seront placées par nos soins ou mises à votre disposition.

Son accès est aisé, que ce soit via le parking souterrain ou par l'esplanade, on accède alors au "foyer d'accueil" .

The Colonial Palace (Tervuren)

History of the Colonial Palace

The ballroom is part of the Royal Museum for Central Africa. This museum has arisen from the World Exposition in 1897.  To encourage the interest of Belgium in Congo, Leopold II organizes, within the framework of this massive event, a Congo-exposition in the Colonial Palace Tervuren.  Its enormous success leads to the establishment of the first Congo Museum in 1898.  As from the beginning, this institution has a scientific task.  Through the fast extension of the collections, a larger building becomes necessary.  In 1910, Albert I inaugurates the current museum.  It is but in 1960, after the Congolese independence, that the Museum is called the Colonial Palace.

The new Dinosaur Gallery is a unique location for original events. A cocktail party or dinner held in this magnificently restored hall, with its impressive dinosaur skeletons, is sure to give your guests an unforgettable evening.

Just spending time among "the nation’s" iguanodons from Bernissart, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, and the rest of earth’s huge creatures will give your event a magical atmosphere. The Gallery takes sitting diners only, and has space for a maximum 200 people.

You can organise a reception or walking dinner on the mezzanine floor of the Dinosaur Gallery, which offers a fantastic view of the hall. You can also combine this with the VIP room, a modern-looking lounge room overlooking the Gallery.

Dive into the ocean in our captivating whale gallery. Your guests can wander between the enormous whale skeletons and acquaint themselves with a truly huge group of sea mammals: dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, sperm whales, baleen whales, walruses, manatees...

In the mineral gallery there are crystals, polished gemstones, meteorites and precious moon rock samples. This literally fantastic and multifunctional area is ideal for receptions and walking dinners and is located right beside the museum’s Auditoria.

The enchanting insect gallery offers a special setting with its butterfly walls, large-scale model of a preying mantis and real honeycomb, in which the bees produce honey and wax - ideal for a cocktail party. A visit to the vivarium is sure to excite your guests as they go in search of live bird spiders, walking twigs and salamanders from far off continents. But don’t worry - these beautiful creatures are safely tucked away behind glass.

The Cavicorn gallery is a cosy room, where your guests will find themselves surrounded by magnificent examples of bongos, bison, impalas, gazelles, ibexes... and imagine themselves in the jungle, on the prairie or high in the mountain tops!

Your conferences can be organised in the Auditoria (seating for 150 and for 40), which are furnished with functionality in mind and equipped with every comfort and logistic aid for your presentations.
